Adding Facebook authentication to your site

You will need to enable the developer option on a Facebook account

  1. Sign in to facebook then go to https://developer.facebook.com

  2. Click Register Now, accept the T&Cs etc

  3. To enable login for your site see the Facebook section in the instructions below…

IMPORTANT Remember to replace ‘yourdomain.com’ with your actual domain anywhere in these instructions!

  1. Login to Facebook and then go to the following: https://developers.facebook.com/apps

  2. Click the Create New App button in the upper-right-hand corner

    Fill in:

    • App Name: (yourdomainwebsite) no spaces

    • App Namespace: leave blank

    • App Category: Put the category that best describes your site type (or pick Utilities)

    • Web Hosting: Leave unticked

    Click Continue…

  3. Fill in the Captcha

  4. In the next window edit the following:

    Basic Info section:

    • Sandbox Mode: Disabled

    Select how your app integrates with Facebook section:

    • Click Website with Facebook Login

    • Site URL: http://yourdomain.com

    • Save Changes

    IMPORTANT!: Leave the resulting window open you will need it in a minute.

  5. Open the Tribalogic Console in a new browser tab.

    • Go to: More > Websites > your site in the ‘Website name’ column

    Select ‘Websites’ from the ‘More’ tab along the top of the Console
    • In the Tribalogic Console, scroll to the Social Login section and copy in the Facebook App ID/API Key and Facebook App Secret to the Facebook section from the other browser window you left open a minute ago.

    Paste your ID and Secret from the other window in the Facebook Section of Social Login. Then click save
    • Scroll to the bottom of the window and click the Save button. Congratulations you should now be able to login via your Facebook credentials.
  6. Visit your site, if you are logged in, then log out.

    • Click sign in and you should now see a Sign in with Facebook button.

    • If you are already signed in to your Facebook account clicking the button is all your user will have to do to sign in to your site.

  7. Now is a good time to open that pack of biscuits!
